GUIDELINES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 11-18
Entry Forms for Eisteddfod 19 June 2010
1. The closing date for receipt of entry forms for all competitions is 22 May 2010.
2. Entries for musical competitions - please bring 2 copies of the music to the competition, the original for yourself and a copy for the adjudicator. Please put your name and competition number on the music. Copies will be destroyed afterwards, to avoid infringing the Copyright Act.
3. COMPETITORS NOT SUBMITTING MUSIC WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
4. If you need an accompanist please send a copy of the music to Colin Beynon (see below) at least a week before the Eisteddfod.
5. Forms may be returned online here , in which case please send music separately, or to Colin Beynon (see below).
Preliminary competitions
6. A maximum of three or four individual or group competitors will perform on the main stage of the Eisteddfod on Saturday afternoon for each competition.
7. If there are more than three competing, preliminary competitions will be held during the morning of 19 June to decide which three competitors will perform on main stage.
8. The preliminary competitions will be held in the lower school at King Henry VIII School, Abergavenny on Saturday morning. Times will be confirmed about a week before the Eisteddfod.
Stage competitions
9. Competitions for young people aged 11-18 will take place at King Henry VIII School, Abergavenny, from 1.30. to about 6.00 pm, on Saturday 19 June 2010
10. Entries must be no longer than 4 minutes (except for dance - 6 minutes and drama - 5 minutes). If they are longer, marks will be deducted.
11. Suggested texts for Welsh learners' recitation are available if needed from the Eisteddfod Secretary, or competitors may choose their own.
12. Medals are given to all finalists. Cash prizes of £15/£10/£5 are given to winners of 1st/2nd/3rd prizes; there are cash prizes for the four best overall competitors and for the top pianists, sponsored by Mr Ted Waller. The adjudicators will also select four acts to perform on stage at the Borough Theatre in the evening.
13. For group competitions, conductors, if required, may be adults or young people.
Charges and organisation
14. Entry to preliminary competitions and the Eisteddfod is free for all young people aged up to 18.
15. There is an entry charge of £2.50 for adults to the prelims, which includes entry to the Eisteddfod on Saturday. This income is used to help meet the Eisteddfod's costs, incl. medals, prize money and publicity. The prelim ticket fee is deducted from the cost of the evening finals.
16. The Eisteddfod is organised by volunteers. New members are always welcome - please contact one of the members below for information.
Abergavenny Town Council Art and Literature competitions
