NOTES FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL COMPETITORS
Entry Forms for Eisteddfod 21 June 2008
1. Entry is open to any competitors at secondary school at the time of the Eisteddfod.
2. The closing date for receipt of entry forms for all competitions is May 24 2008
3. If you are entering instrumental or singing competitions, please bring 2 copies of the music with you, one for the adjudicator and one (original) for the accompanist. The original will be returned to you and any copies will be destroyed afterwards, to avoid infringing the Copyright Act).
4. Forms may be returned online or to Ruth Grant (see below).
Preliminary competitions
5. A maximum of three individual or group competitors will perform on the main stage of the Eisteddfod on Saturday for each competition.
6. If there are more than 3 competing, preliminary competitions will be held during the morning of the Eisteddfod, to decide which 3 competitors will perform on stage. Exact times for prelims will be advised after the entries have been received.
7. All secondary school competitions will be held in King Henry VIII School, Abergavenny.
8. An accompanist will be provided for the afternoon finals on stage. Competitors are asked to provide their own accompanist at the prelims if needed, or to advise Ruth Grant if this is a problem.
Stage competitions
9. The secondary school competitions will be from about 1.30 pm to about 6.00 pm on 21 June.
10. For group competitions, one extra adult or school-age conductor is allowed if needed.
11. Entries must be no longer than 4 minutes ( 6 for the free dance), or marks will be lost.
12. Competitors may select their own pieces to perform, provided they are relevant to the competition category and within the time limit.
13. There will be prizes of £15.00/£10.00/£5.00 for 1st/2nd/3rd winners, prizes given by Mr Ted Waller for piano competition winners and additional prizes for the four overall best performers (see 14 below). A new prize is £50.00 given by the Abbeyfield Society for the best Choral Speaking group.
14. The adjudicators will invite the four best performers to perform on stage at the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny, in the evening, with the adult competitors. There will also be invitations to perform at the Abergavenny Town Twinning celebrations in July.
Charges and organisation
15. Entry to preliminary competitions and the Eisteddfod is free for all school-age children.
16. There is an entry charge of £2.00 for adults to the daytime Eisteddfod, or £6.00 which includes day and evening entry to the adult finals in the Borough Theatre. This income is used to help meet the Eisteddfod costs, incl. medals, prize money and publicity.
17. The Eisteddfod is organised by volunteers. New members are always welcome.
